However, she attracted a lot of interest in March, after her name was suggested as a possible replacement for Hope Hicks as communications director. The fight turned ugly. Schlapp's ally Tony Sayegh and an opponent who is also named Tony started jousting with each other in the news. Schlapp said that after the Washington Examiner had published an article with negative comments about Sayegh's personality, she contacted Sayegh for a private conversation.
